About Mistry Opticians

Brief History

Mistry Opticians has been serving the community for over 35 years. Initially owned by Mansukh Mistry, who became a well-known figure in the area, the practice has now been passed onto Kiran Gurmail. The building has been an opticians since 1936 and originally used to see patients from the old Moorfield Hospital, which was located in Surbiton during the World War.

Kiran’s connection with Mansukh began 14 years ago when he completed a work experience placement at the practice. Over the years, they maintained their relationship, and after Mansukh’s retirement, Kiran took over the practice. A qualified optometrist for 8 years, Kiran trained at City University in London before gaining valuable experience working at several opticians before coming to Mistry Opticians.

    What a wonderful opticians! Kiran was highly professional, keeping me comfortable and well informed the whole way through my eye test. He showed me the current health and status of my eyes, followed with recommendations to improve some of the symptoms I'd been experiencing lately. Even when I had expressed concern about my eyesight, he was comforting and reassuring.
    He then helped me browse through the collection of lenses, tailoring very well to my needs. It felt so much more personal than any other opticians I've been to.

    I didn't have an appointment booked however after experiencing eye pain which became progressively worse, I knocked on the door in the late afternoon and Kiran was able to see me there and then. He was professional and explained clearly what each test was for. He made a referral for me to the local hospital for first thing the next morning and provided drops to relieve my symptoms until my appointment. After my appointment he followed up to ask how I was. Kiran went above and beyond and I couldn't recommend him and his practice any more highly. You definitely get a personal touch due to the fact the practice is independently owned rather than a high street chain.
